T. Malody Schoonover
A Word From the Artist
Trudy's art is a reflection of a life spent exploring
nature and the various mediums available to render her
observations. "I tend to more of a realist in my
approach but with feeling. The examples of my work
on this site vary in subject and will continue to
vary because "there is so much to paint, and
so little time."

Painting and drawing has always allowed me to replicate
the emotion and grandeur of “what this world has to
offer” as I see it, and ultimately, I believe, “A gift”
that is meant to be shared (Thank you God.)
primarily work in Pastels in a variety of different
subjects.
I love to draw and I love color & Pastels come in such
a broad variety of “Richness” that they just beg to be
spread over a fine paper. Pastels have a sensual quality
in themselves that require no “technique tricks” to end
up with a beautiful piece of work. My
favorite support would be Wallis papers because
of the quick drying time when toning with Turpentine or
water based paints, and because of the "tooth" that supports the multiple layering of pastels. Ah
yes . . . Pastels. might
see some Oils or Watercolors in my collection, but they
are a struggle for me because I don’t want to spend
precious painting time planning. I painted with both of
these mediums before being introduced to pastels by a
fine College Art instructor Nancy Madura, but ever
since, I have been hooked on the looseness of the
pastels. |

What I paint starts out as
an idea after an emotion I felt when “seeing” something
that is so inspiring to me I just had to reproduce it. .
.Whew! I can usually look at something and “see” in
color the feeling it gives me. Sultry or fiery, warm or
cool, I then try to render with as much technique as I
have at that moment to achieve that emotion on canvas.
Atmospheric color transitions and depth in landscapes
still give me some trouble though. Every
painting is an exploration in color, composition, values
or style. I am constantly learning as I go and my
interests and style have gone from copying Cowboy genre
Charlie Russell as a kid, Walt Disney’s exaggerated
color animation, realistic Robert Bateman’s wildlife,
Steven Quiller’s complimentary palette to my current
favs: Skip Whitcomb and Susan Ogilvie, oh yea! Some
pieces work out and others don’t. I can’t take any of
it too serious. They are all a “learning experience” for
me and it’s all in fun. So . . . I invite you to
my web site, to share, critique and hopefully buy
something because...
"I Paint what I like, and you might like it too" |
